How to Size Men's Joggers: A Simple Fit Guide

Buying joggers online is easy until they show up too tight in the seat or bunched at the ankle. Sizing varies from brand to brand, so the size you wear somewhere else is only a starting point. Here is how to get it right the first time.

1. Measure your waist

Grab a soft measuring tape and measure around your natural waist, where your pants normally sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight, and do not suck in. Compare that number to the brand's size chart, not to the size on your old pants.

2. Check the size chart and the model

A good product page gives you real measurements and tells you what size the model is wearing and how tall he is. That is one of the most useful fit clues you can get. If you are close to the model's height and build, his size is a good reference.

3. Know how the brand fits

Look for notes like "true to size," "runs small," or "size up." Those tell you whether to stick with your usual size or adjust.

4. What to do between sizes

If you land between two sizes, think about how you train. Squats, lunges, and bending need room through the seat and thighs, so sizing up is usually the safer choice for training pants. A drawstring lets you snug the waist, but you cannot add room to the hips.

5. Test the fit at home

When your joggers arrive, try these before you cut the tags:

  • The squat test: drop into a deep squat. The fabric should move with you without pulling tight across the hips or knees, and the waistband should stay put.
  • The waist check: the waistband should sit comfortably at your natural waist without digging in or sliding down.
  • The length check: look at your ankles from the side. A tapered leg should end cleanly just above your shoes, not stack on top of them.

Signs your joggers are the wrong size

  • Too small: fabric pulls tight across the seat or thighs, the waistband digs in, or the hem rides up your calf when you sit.
  • Too big: extra fabric bunches at the seat or knees, the waistband slides down even with the drawstring tied, or the hem piles up over your shoes.
