What to Wear for Full Body Day: A Men's Guide
Share
Full body day is the wild card of training days. You squat, you press, you hinge, you carry, all in one session. And honestly, it is the hardest day to dress for. Your outfit has to do everything at once. A tee that feels great on bench might fight you on overhead press. Joggers that are perfect for rows might be too warm by the time you get to lunges. Here is how to put together one outfit that keeps up with all of it.

Why Full Body Day Is Tricky to Dress For
Think about it. Squat day is easy: leg stuff, done. Push day: shoulder-friendly shirt, done. Full body day throws every movement pattern at you. Deep knee bends, hip hinges, overhead reaches, horizontal presses, maybe some loaded carries across the gym floor. Your clothes need to be a generalist, and generalists fail in annoying ways. The waistband slips during hinges. The shirt binds during presses. The shoes that felt fine on the bench feel wobbly under a squat.
There is also the pace. Full body workouts usually move fast, short rests, supersets pairing upper and lower body. You heat up quick and stay hot. Breathability and sweat management matter way more here than on a slow heavy day. Plus you are touching every bench, pad, and handle in the gym, so durability and easy washing actually matter.
Bottoms: Joggers or Shorts?
This is the one real debate on full body day. Joggers give you hip mobility for squats and hinges, plus coverage on shared pads. Shorts give you airflow when things get fast, but bare thighs stick to vinyl pads and that gets old by set three.
For most guys, joggers win. A good pair of athletic joggers with a drawstring waist handles squats, lunges, hinges, and carries without you touching them once. The tapered cuff keeps fabric clear of plates and your own feet during carries. If you run hot, grab lightweight joggers with mesh panels or ventilation zones instead of defaulting to shorts. You keep the coverage and lose the heat.
Shorts make sense if your full body day leans conditioning, like circuits with sled pushes and box jumps, where heat is the main enemy. Go with a 7 to 9 inch inseam so you stay covered at the bottom of a squat, and wear compression liners or lined shorts so nothing shifts during deep bends.

Tops: Stretch in Every Direction
Full body day is the ultimate shirt test. Overhead presses need shoulder mobility. Rows need back stretch. Push-ups need chest give. The only top that passes all three is a fitted athletic tee with real four-way stretch, cut so the shoulders can actually move.
Fit is everything here. Snug enough that it stays put on the bench, loose enough that it does not pull across your shoulders overhead. Raglan sleeves or a panel across the upper back help a ton. A straight-across shoulder seam is the first thing to bind on an overhead press. Skip tanks and stringers. You will be on shared benches and pads all session, and skin on vinyl is not comfortable for anyone.
If you sweat a lot, this is the day to care about moisture. You are moving for up to 90 minutes straight, and a soaked shirt gets cold and clingy by the end. Lightweight synthetics that dry fast beat heavy cotton blends every time.
Footwear: Your Most Important Decision
On a full body day, your shoes matter more than anything else you are wearing. They need to be stable under a barbell squat, flat for deadlifts, grippy for lunges, and comfortable enough for loaded carries. That rules out most of what guys actually wear to the gym.
Running shoes are the trap. The cushioned heel that feels great on a run makes loaded squats wobbly and deadlifts harder, because soft foam compresses and shifts under weight. And do not wear slides or anything without laces for the lifting parts. That is an accident waiting to happen.
What you want is a flat-soled training shoe with a firm midsole and a wide, stable base. Cross-trainers are literally built for this: lateral stability for lunges, a level platform for squats and deadlifts, grip for carries. One good pair covers every movement on a full body day. If your gym bag is due for one upgrade, make it this.

Accessories and Details
Full body day gear is mostly about support and sweat. Bring a lifting belt if the session has heavy squats or deadlifts. It lives in your bag during the pressing and accessory work. Wrist wraps help if overhead pressing comes after heavy pulling, since your wrists are already tired. Knee sleeves are fine for the squat portion if you like the warmth, but do not wear them all session. They get hot fast during conditioning work.
Bring a towel and actually use it. You are touching every station in the gym today. Chalk or liquid grip helps on deadlifts and heavy rows when your hands get sweaty from the pace. Keep a water bottle you can carry between stations, because full body sessions keep you moving. Skip anything that dangles. Necklaces, bracelets, loose watch straps, they all catch on barbells during rows and carries.
What to Avoid
Do not wear cotton anything. A cotton tee and cotton sweatpants on full body day means you are soaked by minute twenty and damp for the rest of it. Skip basketball shorts without liners. The deep squat parts of the day will expose you. Skip compression-only bottoms as your outer layer if your gym frowns on that. Layer shorts over tights instead. Do not break in brand-new shoes on a heavy full body day. Wear them on a light day first, because a stiff new shoe shows up fastest under a squat. And ditch the heavy hoodie warm-up layer after ten minutes. Strip it after the warm-up or you will overheat by the working sets.

The Full Body Day Checklist
One outfit, every movement. Fitted athletic tee with four-way stretch and mobile shoulders. Joggers with a real drawstring waist, or lined shorts with a 7 to 9 inch inseam. Flat, firm cross-training shoes, never cushioned runners. A lifting belt if heavy squats or deadlifts are on the menu. Wrist wraps and a towel. Water you can carry. Nothing cotton, nothing brand new, nothing dangling. Dress for the hardest movement in the session and the rest takes care of itself.
