What to Wear to a Spin or Cycling Class (Men)
Share
Spin class is one of the sweatiest workouts you can do. The room is warm, the pace is high, and you are on the bike for 45 minutes or more. What you wear makes a real difference in how the class feels.
The top: light and quick-drying
You will sweat a lot, so skip cotton. It soaks up sweat and gets heavy. A lightweight synthetic tee handles sweat better and dries faster. A fitted cut also keeps loose fabric from flapping around when you stand up out of the saddle.
The KYNOS Performance Tee is a 160 GSM nylon, polyester and spandex blend with an athletic fit, and it is quick-drying. For more on choosing a top, see the best workout shirts for men.

The bottoms: close-fitting, not baggy
The biggest rule for spin bottoms is simple: nothing loose around your ankles. Wide or baggy pant legs can catch on the pedals or crank. You have two good options:
- Padded cycling shorts: many regular riders wear these for comfort on the saddle, especially in longer classes.
- Tapered stretch joggers: a slim, tapered leg stays clear of the pedals, and stretch fabric moves with you through every pedal stroke. A good pick if you want full-length coverage or are heading somewhere after class.
Avoid heavy cotton sweatpants. They get hot fast and hold sweat. See joggers vs. sweatpants.

The KYNOS FlexStride Jogger has a tapered straight leg, four-way stretch and a moisture-wicking, quick-drying 80% nylon, 20% spandex knit, and it is built for cycling as well as the gym. Zip side pockets keep your phone and keys from falling out.
Shoes
Many studios have clip-in cycling shoes to rent or borrow, which lock your feet to the pedals. If you are just starting, regular training shoes with a firm sole work with most studio bikes that have cages or straps. Ask the studio before your first class.
